Monster Boy arrives 2016, new subtitle, new screen!

Sorry friends, we won't make it in 2015. :/ Monster Boy needs more time and we agreed to give it the polishing it deserves. This means the release has to move to 2016.

Here's a new screenshot from the game. What a spooky place!

Woah - that skeleton looks dangerous. Let's go slowly from here...

We target Q1 2016 now and the team is working hard on creating the game we all want to play so badly. It will be great!

We also changed the subtitle. After much criticism on our previous choice 'Wizard of Booze'. The games subtitle is now 'Cursed Kingdom'. It fits nicely and we hope this is something more convenient for everybody :-)

I have to agree with the previous comment. Take all the time you need. I can wait a few more months for something that I will play for years. I just know it.
This is a dream come true for me. Just one more to wish for - Phantasy star V. Perhaps you could help me with that after you released this gem. ;-)

Thanks! :-) Oh how I wish Phantasy Star V could become a reality some day. I was sad when they announced PSO instead of V for Dreamcast.

The red eyes peeking out from the thorns are a cool touch.

Like the new title, game looks very nice so far, Please post a clip of gameplay soon! maybe, please post a clip of Yuzo Koshiro's music he made for the game too? I'm very excited for this.

yes, post a video of gameplay, that would be awesome. Please don't be a studio that keeps delaying the game. I am happy that it is delayed to be more awesome. The screenshot looks great too, love that skeleton and that backdrop. Will there be a dragon theme/boss in the game to carry on tradition? Not sure about the subtitle but it is better than the last one you had for this game. Could have been something like Cursed Dragon Kingdom (or what ever theme the world is). You will notice a number of posts from me in your blog so you can see I am keen on this game. Good luck with the polishing up.

Definitly moving correctly and good progress.
Title and delay is good too. Yuzo Koshiro is a good surprise. We want more good surprises like this, it will elevate the value of the game. We need to more of how big is the Monster Boy world and is there a lot of back tracking and secrets in the games? Is there puzzles to solve and different powers and buying equipment menus and shops? It should pay tribute and the spiritual of Wonder boy serious. Please I want to test it to give you an honest feedback because I am a big fan.

The required back tracking will be moderate but we will have various optional secrets so it will be good to return to old places when you aquired new abilites or special equipment ;-) We will include puzzles and you'll buy your first important equipment in a shop already in the first 10 minutes of the game

Love what I've seen so far. The booze title made it sound like a drunk hero. A game this special deserves an Android release. Will the game be internet dependent like games are these days to even play at all?
Hope there aren't real money in game purchases. Give me a one payment game cartridge any day.

We're focusing on finishing the game first before making final decisions about the target platforms. However, we love the PS Vita and the chances are good.

Much better subtitle and another beautiful screenshot, keep up all the good work. I honestly had no idea this was to come in 2015 anyway so the news of it coming in 2016, is actually a pleasant surprise to me. Regardless, take all the time you need to make the game perfect, that's the most important thing!

The subtitle is a nice added touch. I really like how the gameplay looks.What sort of controls do you have planned? As a one handed gamer, I hope that I will be able to play this game with ease.

Thanks Adam. I wouldn't be able to play the game with one hand but do you have references of jump'n'run games that work well for you ?

Thanks for the reply FDG! It would be awesome if you could place a retro gaming selection for the gamepad configuration, like Wonder Boy IV in Monster World for GEN; i.e. X is Attack, []/O is Jump, []/O is Block, /\ is special move/attack. L1/R1 controls are alright for other moves/switching characters or r-thumbstick, but I'm out of reach of L2/R2.

Honestly I think the skeleton should have a bigger goofy head in tone with the super deformed environment.

Hm... I don't know if a Kickstarter to print physical copies is something possible with Kickstarter terms, but it seems like a good idea. We will consider that as an option! ^^

I LOVE the new game title ! I love EVERYTHING about this game so far... I imagine it will be a PS4 download game when it comes out. That's fine, but I admit I'm hoping you guys will make a PS4 disc of the game as well. I just found out one of my favorite new "retro" platformers "Shovel Knight" is getting a disc release on all consoles ! I'll buy the Monster Boy download, but I'd buy a disc of this game as well !! Both ! :-) I hope we get the previous Wonder Boy games re-released on PS4 at some point too...(If SEGA would allow...)

Thanks a lot! We'd love to have a disc version..maybe that option opens up when we finished the game. It depends on the success of the game and the voice of fellow players and the community.

Here's hoping that you can unlock a playable female/ Monster Girl (Asha/Monster World IV) character in this game.

I could see some type of FDG Entertainment & WayForward type of collaboration with making the Monster Girl character have an exclusive DLC(s) where she can buy Shantae outfits (Red, Blue, Pirate,Magic Mode) & transform into some of Shantae animals &/or monsters (Spider,Succubus, Harpy ect?

This idea may work better as a future FDG Entertainment & WayForward collaboration game with Monster boy, Monster Girl & Shantae as playable characters.

#Make A Monster Girl Character Playable in Monster Boy & The Cursed Kingdom.

We love the Shantae series, great games! Maybe in the future we find good ways to collaborate with cameo appearances but for now our release timings are different and we need to establish Monster Boy first. Anyway, we're in contact with Wayforward..who knows what'll happen next ;-)

I grew up with Wonderboy and just discovered this creation today. Needless to say, I'm fervently twitterpated.

I was really digging the original subtitle "wizard of booze" and don't really understand the need to change it.

The majority of fans are old geezers, like myself. If underage children are playing the game, the concept of turning into a monster while consuming "booze" will help these children empathize with their parents' internal demons.

"Monster Boy and the Pervasive Potion Pusher" has a much nicer ring to it than "cursed kingdom".... that is unless this kingdom has swear word graffiti all over the place. If so, then it's perfect!

This, this was my childhood, one of my favourite games for the Genesis was Wonderboy in Monster World... I used to play that game to death!

Can't wait to get this when it comes out and introduce it to my own kids... GENERATIONAL!

To be honest, it already runs pretty well on our Windows 10 machines, it will run on Windows 7 too. So far we didn't plan a Linux version because we're not very experienced with that to be honest...

Ho my god... this looks like a HD re-creation of what the game would look like if it was based on the artwork from the manual! Like what it was "supposed" to look like!

You guys are wizards. No words for how cool this screenshot looks. I really hope this project happens.
