New Monster Boy Demo

Fellow Monster Boy friends,

next month we're looking forward to some great game expos taking place in Germany and Hong Kong. We'll have a new playable demo ready for both events! It's Gamescom and Retro.HK. While we mainly prepared the demo for press members, visitors of Retro.HK will get their chance to play it too. This is the first time to have the game playable in China and we can't wait to hear back from the audience there.

For the first time we're showing the beach starting section as a whole, uncut and with updated graphics details.
Showing a demo always gives us mixed feelings. On one hand we're super excited to see people playing our game, on the other hand we always know it's just a glimpse of the full experience and the game is so much more. The main problem with game expos is that press and players don't have the time to dig into all aspects of a game and need to get a quick impression so they can move on to the next game and publisher quickly. This time we made a slight change by keeping the beach section of the demo at full length just like you'll experience it in the final game. Another change is that we show a different section of the sewers that leads to the village. You'll see Monster Village for the first time properly and with the new graphics. We did cut out the Snake segment as it's still in progress of graphical updates but we kept the frog segment in the demo with new graphics, too. It's still a very short demo made specifically for the showfloor but a step forward to get a glimpse of the final game. We'll make sure to have a video of the demo up on YouTube so everyone can check it out.

Maybe there will be a Switch Demo as well? Fingers cross.

FDG, Thomas on :

The Gamescom demo which we show to press members will run on a Switch! Unfortunately we don't have plans for a downloadable demo on Switch as we focus on finishing the main game first.

Spidey981 on :

The beach is so beautiful, I want to spend my holidays (without giant crabs and piranhas). I look forward to seeing a YouTube video.

FDG, Thomas on :

Thank you Spidey! The whole game will be giant holiday-material. Lots of beautiful places :-)

Lorenzo on :

A big HUG! I can't wait!

FDG,Thomas on :

Big HUG back!

Spidey981 on :

Will we have a demo video on YouTube before the Retro H.K and Gamescom or during these events?

FDG,Thomas on :

Demo Video will appear sometime during Retro.HK event.

Spidey981 on :

Thank you all, I look at all the details of this new screenshot and the beach is really heavenly, strongly in a month we have the new video demo of Retro H.K

Ianuzzo on :

Hello, i've been following this game for a while now and i must say this looks absolutely stunning! I've been gaming since the ' 80s and always loved the Wonder Boy franchise. I had alot of fun with the remake of Dragon's trap this year and i'm expecting tot have alot of fun with this game in the future. I don't care about call of duty or another FIFA. Monster Boy is the game i wanna play.

As an oldschool gamer i can tell you this game needs a physical release. At least explore the option, maybe Limited Run games??
Also i understand Vita support is probably nog going tot happen. That's ok, but in that's case please make sure the remote play feature via PS4 works so that we can play the game on Vita.

Keep up the amazing work!
Greetings from the Netherlands

FDG,Thomas on :

Thanks Ianuzzo, I'm glad you like the screenshots! Totally agree on the physical release - we need to make that happen. ^_^ We're confident to find a way but it's too early to confirm it. Please stay tuned!

RETRO.HK, Maurice on :

We are looking forward to show and play the demo and will feature it as well during our livestream for all those which can't attend.

Lindsey Stewart on :

Just 100% wonder boy and the dragon's trap

Cannot wait for monster boy and im wondering if you have plans to remaster/remake wonder boy 1 AND 2, i like 3 that much!!

Cheers from Australia
You guys rock!!

FDG,Thomas on :

Thank you Lindsey! We hope that Monster Boy is a success so we can actually continue the game as a series instead of remaking 1 and 2. We love the classic Wonder Boys but we would also love to keep making new games!

Siphon on :

The new, detailed graphics for the beach scene are gorgeous! And it's really good to know that the area is bigger then what I've seen on youtube 1,000 times already; I can't wait to play the finished game!

FDG,Thomas on :

Thanks so much Siphon!

ALFREDO on :

DO MY EYES DECEIVE ME I REMEMBER THE FIRST BEACH SCREENSHOT AND TRAILER IN 2015 THIS NEW SCREENSHOT LOOKS AMAZING THIS COMFIRMS TO ME THAT YOU GUYS ARE EXTREMELY TALENTED DEVS AS A GAMER FOR OVER 30 YEARS I CANT TRUELLY SAY THIS GAME IS A WORK OF ART IF YOU GUYS ARE UPDATING THE GRAPHICS ON THE WHOLE GAME THEN TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED I WILL DEFINITELY BUY DAY ONE HOPEFULLY PHYSICAL COPY IF NOT THEN I WILL BUY DIGITAL INSTEAD CONGRADULATIONS ON WHAT I BELIEVE THAT MONSTERBOY IS GONNA BE A SUCESSFUL FRANCHISE.

FDG,Thomas on :

Thanks a lot Alfredo! Always great to get such positive feedback about our ongoing production. We do it for people like you! When the game is out it will be big party for oldschool gamers. Looking forward to the day we can release the game and share the experience with everyone!

Ken on :

Hi, please tell us/me your release date... dont want to wait any longer for that game. Is a playable Demo Version in the playstation shop possible...
dont let us wait ... we wont that game now.
Later there are too much releases... like Destiny, Uncharted and Call of Duty... Use now the time... there is no competitors now!
Regards Kenny

FDG,Thomas on :

Hi Ken, thank you for sharing the excitement about Monster Boy with us! Unfortunately we currently don't plan to release a downloadable demo because our focus is on finishing the main game first. We are giving our best to finish it as fast as possible but also as great as possible :-) Competitors will always be around so our only chance is to have one of the best games in the genre - a MUST HAVE. It will be worth the wait. cheers!

Spidey981 on :

Bonjour Fabien !

FDG,Thomas on :

Hi Spidey, please note that Fabien is currently on paternity leave and will return in a couple weeks. It can take a while until he responds to your message. Please enjoy the week!

Spidey981 on :

Thank you Thomas to warn me. Congratulations to the young dad.

Fred on :

Philipp / FDG on :

Salut Fred,
merci pour tes gentils mots! =)
Nous ne pouvons pas encore dire grand chose en ce qui concerne la date de sorti et comment le jeux va paraître. On fera l'annonce dès que nous pouvons. Juste encore un peu de patience ;-)

João Carlos on :

Oh... Too bad there is not gonna have a public demo. I'm so anxious to play it but I guess I will have to wait a little more. The new graphics are really looking awesome, congratulations!

FDG,Thomas on :

Thanks for your understanding João and I'm glad you enjoy the new visuals.

Lori on :

I'm really happy with the way this game is turning out, as a long time wonder boy fan! I have one question though...

Why is the pig-man pink? It's a minor thing, but he's normally purple and to be honest I prefer him that way. Could this ever change?

FDG,Thomas on :

Thank you Lori! When Jin gets transformed to a pig, he's still the same person from the inside. Nabu makes fun of the pig form by adding an eyepatch and certain dress that we know from Dragon's Trap but it's not the same character. On a sidenote: Purple would be a bad color choice for certain areas in the game and we need to keep in mind that players can transform at will at every spot. cheers!

Lori on :

Ah, then I guess it's a good thing it's not WB3 pig-man's spirit being used there (or anything else like that), I'd rather him be alive!
If there's purple backdrops or anything like that in the game then that color choice would definitely make sense too. Thanks for the clarification.

Logbomb on :

Actually in Dragon's Trap only the pirate pig that gives out the password is purple, the rest of them look like this:

Fuzzy Drainage on :

Many thanks for the consistent updates! I have been following this production for some time and had the pleasure of previous communications with Mr. Nishizawa. I am greatly looking forward to the official release and plan on performing a full playthrough on ”The Farts and Craps Show“ (my YouTube gaming channel). Wonder Boy 3 was my favorite game for the Master System as a child, and it brings me great joy that this series is seeing a revival. Thank you, FDG Entertainment, and I warmly wish you the best of luck.

FDG,Thomas on :

Thank you for your kind words and your intention to make a let's play on your YouTube channel. Looking forward to see it when the game is out :-)

juan pablo on :

Awesome! can't wait for it.

Cheers!!!!
