Please visit the PlayStation blog on March 4!
Dear Monster Boy followers, fans and interested gamers - sorry for the silence!
We're crunching and working hard to finish the game. While we get closer to the finishing line, there's still a lot to do, so please don't expect a release in the first half of 2016. Since we're going to release the game simultanously on PS4 and Xbox One - we need an additional buffer for the release window on top of the porting work.

Y'all know that creating a game is only one side of the medal - we also need to get some buzz and work on the marketing side. On March 4, we'll have our first blog post on the official Sony Playstation Blog! It's the first time we're introducing the game to a general audience of players and we hope there's some good feedback. Please support us and do some noise! ^_^
About Platforms
We hear you loud and clear! There's PS Vita, WiiU and even more. We totally agree that these platforms need to get Monster Boy, too! We love Nintendo! However, it's impossible for us to work on all portings at the same time. Also, the game needs to sell well enough so we're able to finance the porting work as it can be very time consuming. Since we don't have any guarantee for success, we just can't announce additional platforms at the moment.

Someone told Pig-Man the finishing line is on the left, now he really wants to get there quickly!

I notice the boomerang has a bar underneath that says 22/30. Looking back at other screenshots I see a similar bar (without the numbers), but I always thought that was for how many of a spell (such as a fireball) you have left. However the boomerang comes back, and I doubt you get 22 of them. Does this mean we get to level up the boomerang and various spells?
I totally understand that porting costs money and takes time. Once the simultaneous PS4 and Xbone launch is an outstanding success, then I have no doubt many other platforms will follow.
We'll be on the PS blog on March 4 making some noise, don't worry about that. I can't remember ever being this worked up about a release of a game, I guess waiting over 20 years can do that to you ^_^

most retro players do not like, do not own and which only offer
slightly better graphics for the online FPS crowd.
This is a RETRO game but it's coming out for non retro systems,
do people who love online first person shooters even care?
More people own PS3/360 than PS4/Xbone anyhow so all it
looks like is yet another marketing scheme to try to get people
to buy a new game console. For an old school game.
It isn't going to happen. You'd make more money on the larger
audience, the audience who owns the older systems.

All I have to say is WOW. Never thought someone could create that magical atmosphere that the old Wonder Boy games did, and still do. Always believed in this game but now i KNOW. Really hope you'll find an audience for this game. As for me, I really think this will be my GOTY for 2016. Take all the time in the world as long as you bring me the best game since Dragon's Trap.
Need money? Release physical copies for PS Vita, 3DS, Wii U and NX. No matter the price, I'll buy them all and live happily ever after.

If there was a possibility of a physical Vita cart of this game, I'd pay top dollar for that!

And if the game supports only the keyboard, there are programs that emulate the keyboard with a compatible controller, like Xpadder!
We look forward to your progress, good job!

Many thanks for the new screenshot. Unbelievable that a former shop seller is a playable character in the new game. Pigs in video game are awesome! More awesome are living mushrooms in video games - like the Mushroom Spirit.. Toad.. or Shroomboom.. living mushrooms do rock!
It´s understandable about the porting costs. Especially the Wii U, which is practically an underdog (which I own - my only ´next-gen´ console), needs much attention. I will recommend the game to everyone I can. But maybe it´s a good idea tu use a kickstarter campaign to get enough money for the ports? Yeah sure, not everybody likes kickstarter and other platforms, but it´s an option. I don´t know how I could support you more - I will never buy a Sony system again and I will never ever buy a Microsoft system.. ^,^
Thanks for all your efforts!
By the way, I have an idea for a great cutscene. I see Shion (he is the hero of the new game, isn´t he?) reaching a lookout, a cliff. He finds a praying woman who is sitting at the top of it. She is wearing a habit so you can´t see her face from the first moment. If Shion talks to her, she will be revealed as Asha, who could tell him about an old story from the past that is somewhat linked with the actual story of the game. I see her face right before my eyes while talking to Shion, looking at the horizon.
Kind regards from Germany,
Gordman

First of all thanks for making this game, i have been waiting for a new one for a long time. Spiritual successor or real doesn't matter (this is real though, just a new name).
Anyway, i saw in the new picture from the playstation blog that there is, what looks like a dragon, next to the normal form. Is it a new form, does it have wings? - My absolute favorite in wonder boy 3 was the bird... so, can you fly in this game? Would absolutely love it.

I played de Dragon's Trap more than twenty years ago! This game is very important to me. This one was the first game that I played that have passwords. All other are small games that can be beated in a single day.
I had played several fangames (Wonder Boy Legendary World, Dragon's Curse Remake, Monster World RPG), but your game ascended into the release that revive the series, congratulations!
I gonna wish something: Please, PLEASE put a hard mode! This is a feature very easy to do that enriches A LOT the experience for veteran players!

If, after finishing the main gameplay you run out of time/resources, consider, at least, making a simple Hard Mode that just multiply the damage received by something between 125%-200%. This is ridiculous fast to code and, in terms of game design, just someone who finish the game in this mode is enough to validade it.

I'm impressed by what I've seen about this title so far! Great stuff!
This really is a Wonder Boy revival with serious hints to the best title in the series, Dragon's Trap!
Great work to all of you.
I'm seriously looking forward to a release date now.
Keep up the great work.

I have a lot of emotional investment in this series. I have so many fond memories of playing through the Dragon's Trap and MWIV with my brother, who passed away recently and although we won't get to play Monster Boy together, please know he was rooting for you guys to make a great game.

I have been enthusiastic about this game ever since it was called Flying Hamster II, and I am really looking forward to it.
You have to realize that consoles have become FPS boxes, so going there FIRST to pay for porting to the PC will likely be a bad idea.
I have been pondering getting a ps4 but there are simply no games for it that I would want.
Yes, Monster boy would be the first I would feel enthusiastic about, but... its not worth 400 quid to me, sorry.
Would hate to see this die due to bad marketing decisions.

for example, game play length for:
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap as 15.6 hours (53 votes)
Monster World IV = 13.6 Hours (18 votes)

I've been waiting for more than 15 years for such title to come.
I do still remember in my childhood writing down various codes of my game including "WE5T 0NE 0000 000" in various pages / notes daydreaming about this game never knowing why such word "west one" was chosen, until recently when I visited PSN site on March and heard about your site and the team who created this game and I am glade that you posted this on PSN site. (or maybe not as I am being tortured everyday waiting for it to be released ASAP).
I won't mind for another couple dozens of episodes or DLCs in the future
well, thanks and best regards for all the efforts.

Dragon's Trap being 15 hours long is only because in the first play through people died a lot and wandered around finding out where to go next. Really Dragon's Trap only has about 4 hours worth of game play at the most, once you know what you are doing, and I am sure that Monster Boy is going to have a lot more game play than that and will be a much bigger world in comparison to Dragon's Trap.
